Fishing Games: How Fish Shooting Games Work
Fishing games mix arcade action with casino maths and are hugely popular across Malaysia. Here is what happens behind the colourful screen.
The basics
In a fishing game you control a cannon at the edge of an underwater scene. Each shot costs a set amount, which you choose before firing. Targets such as fish, turtles or sea monsters swim across the screen, and each one carries a multiplier. When a target is "captured", you win your shot value multiplied by the target's value. Some rooms let several players shoot at the same targets at once.
Targets and multipliers
| Target | Typical behaviour |
|---|---|
| Small fish | Low multipliers, captured often |
| Medium fish | Moderate multipliers, need more shots on average |
| Boss or special targets | High multipliers, rare captures, can absorb many shots |
| Bonus targets | Trigger special features such as bombs, chain lightning or wheels |
Is it skill or luck?
Aiming feels like skill, and choosing targets does shape how your session feels. But whether a shot captures a target is decided by the game's random number generator and its built-in return. That means skill cannot overcome the house edge over time. Treat fishing games as a casino game with arcade visuals, not as a game you can master for profit.
Special weapons and features
Many games offer special cannons, laser weapons, bombs or drills. Some are won as features; others increase the cost per shot. Read the game rules to see exactly what each one costs and does.
Budget tips for fishing games
- Pick a shot value that allows several hundred shots from your session budget.
- Avoid raising the cannon level to chase a boss target you have already spent a lot on.
- Set a timer; continuous action makes it easy to lose track of time.
- Check how the game counts towards bonus wagering before playing with a bonus.
